Not doing it alone

Funeral suppliers and professionals

‘‘I don’t know how you do it.”

I hear this a lot in my work as a funeral celebrant, and while I understand the sentiment, the truth is: I don’t do it alone.

Funerals are deeply collaborative, and I am just one link in a chain of incredible people who make it all happen. Behind every funeral, there’s a network of compassionate, skilled, and often unseen professionals working tirelessly to support grieving families. Some of these incredible professions include:

- Hearse drivers who handle their role with quiet dignity, ensuring every journey is taken with care.
- Morticians who gently prepare loved ones, treating them with utmost respect.
- Funeral directors who guide families through some of the hardest days of their lives, attending to every detail.

- Florists who carefully craft beautiful arrangements and flowers

- Chapel attendants who ensure venues are set up with care and respect and all the audio visuals work perfectly and seamlessly.
Musicians, caterers, livestreamers and countless others bring their talents to create meaningful ceremonies.

All of us, in our own way, work together toward one goal: to ensure that families feel supported and able to say farewell in a way that feels right to them.

It’s an honour to stand alongside these incredible humans and professionals. Their dedication ensures that families are supported and all details are taken care of.

So, when you say, “I don’t know how you do it,” my answer is simple: “I don’t do it alone”.
